Lacombe Lodge Employees Choose CLAC Over UFCW

DATE: December 17, 2010

Lacombe, AB—Employees at Lacombe Senior Citizens Lodge voted unanimously in favour of CLAC representing them as their union earlier this afternoon. CLAC came out on top over the United Food and Commercial Workers (UFCW) in a vote conducted under the supervision of the Alberta Labour Relations Board. The Lacombe Lodge employees will become members of Health Care and Service Employees Union, Local 301, affiliated with CLAC.

“It’ll be great to have some good representation here,” says Rosie Vanderleek, one of the key inside organizers at the home. Rosie contacted Melanie St. Andrews, Alberta representative, about switching to CLAC. “The employees are all excited with the change of unions," says Melanie. "They showed that with their unanimous support. I’m excited that CLAC has the opportunity to provide quality representation for these deserving employees.”
