Chatham, ON—Construction Workers Local 53 members employed by Henry Heyink Construction Ltd. voted eighty-eight percent in favour of ratifying their first collective agreement.
The three-year contract provides for yearly wage and retirement savings plan increases as well as improvements to the benefit plan and overtime provisions.
“Our members are certainly happy with the settlement reached,” says Ryan Griffioen, Ontario representative. “The employees are treated well and paid likewise. The bargaining process was constructive, and we look forward to continuing with a positive labour relationship over the term of this agreement.”
Heyink workers are among a growing list of construction employees in southwestern Ontario choosing CLAC as their union.
