Good News in Tough Times

DATE: February 17, 2011

Listowel, ON—Employees of Livingstone Manor Retirement Home, represented by Health Care and Service Workers Union, Local 304, voted unanimously to accept the conditions of a one-year renewed collective agreement providing them with a two percent wage increase.

“This was a difficult round of bargaining,” says Irene Simpson, CLAC’s GTA and eastern Ontario director. “These are tough economic times and we believe the settlement achieved is fair under these circumstances. We will be back at the table in 2012.”

“I am pleased that we were able to increase our in-lieu of benefits,” says Heather Dafoe, a member of the negotiating team. “We were able to get some justice for employees who were denied benefits by the insurer by getting an in-lieu premium for them as well.”
