Grimsby, ON—A strong majority of Construction Workers Local 6 members voted in favour of a new three-year collective agreement, which provides wage increases of over $3.00 per hour for skilled labourers over the term.
“Our focus was to maintain the balance of good pay for our members and their employers' ability to bid competitively on construction projects,” says Andrew Regnerus, Ontario construction coordinator and lead negotiator. “We achieved monetary recognition, overtime improvements, and paid training time.”
Local 6 bargains jointly with six general contractors in Hamilton. By the end of the collective agreement, the employer pension contribution will be $5.10 per hour. The hourly rate for a carpenter will be $34.60, with a total wage package of $45.23.
