First Contract for Clarke Construction Employees

DATE: March 22, 2011

Chatham, ON—Employees of Clarke Construction Inc., who recently joined Construction Workers Local 53, ratified their first collective agreement.

Along with wage increases, the contract outlines many work conditions, including overtime, work wear and boot allowance, travel pay, vacation time and pay, bereavement leave, and more. In addition, employees will receive pension contributions for the first time and will benefit from employer contributions to CLAC’s Education and Training Fund.

“Negotiations proved to be lengthy, but the end result was positive,” says Roger Grootenboer, Ontario representative. “This contract secures wages and benefits for the membership and provides the prospect of stable, long term employment.”
