First Agreement Ratified by Eckville Manor Employees

DATE: December 06, 2011

Eckville, AB—Members of Health Care and Service Employees’ Union, Local 301, employed by Eckville Manor House voted ninety-five percent in favour of a newly negotiated collective agreement that will run to the end of 2012.

The agreement brings employees in line with their fellow Local 301 members at sister long term care facility Lacombe Lodge. It provides wage increases for 2012 as well as improvements to the weekend premium, benefits, general holidays, and personal days and includes the addition of a shoe and clothing allowance.

“I believe these negotiations were decent and everyone handled themselves well at the table,” says Linda Psikla, a member of the bargaining committee and day cook at Eckville Manor. “Management really listened to what we had to say and heard our concerns. I’m really happy we joined the union.”

The employees joined Local 301 earlier this past summer.
