Windsor ON—Local 53 members employed by Empire Roofing Corporation have ratified a collective agreement that will provide monetary increases of approximately nine percent over the next four years. The contract includes wage and allowance increases, improved travel pay and vacation, and probationary provisions.
Members approved the settlement, which was negotiated by Construction Workers Local 53, at a membership meeting on December 18, 2012. The employees covered by the agreement include roofers and apprentice roofers, and general and skilled labourers.
“It’s a good deal and a positive sign considering the tough economy the Windsor area has experienced these past several years,” says Ryan Griffioen, Ontario representative.
Local 53, which represents workers at three Windsor roofing firms, has represented Empire Roofing employees since 1992. CLAC has represented construction workers in Southwestern Ontario for more than forty-five years.
