CLAC Welcomes Improvements to TFW Program

DATE: March 14, 2011

Mississauga, ON—On April 1, 2011, new rules will come into effect for Canada’s Temporary Foreign Worker Program, administered by Human Resources and Skill Development Canada (HRSDC). As a labour union representing over 50,000 workers across Canada in industries affected by the temporary foreign worker program, CLAC favours improvements that will protect these workers and punish unscrupulous employers who take unfair advantage of these Canadian visitors.

Immigration policies must ensure that Canadians who are willing and able to work are hired first. Where there are not enough skilled workers to fill demand, it is up to unions, governments, and employers to work together to improve the skills of the Canadian workforce to help fill these jobs. CLAC is committed to the skill development of the Canadian workforce through its national network of training centres and training experts.
