Vancouver—Jenson Leung, Brenda Rogers, and Cherie Jackson have each won a $1,500 CLAC scholarship toward furthering their post-secondary education.
CLAC awards twelve $1,500 scholarships annually to members, their spouses, children, and grandchildren from across the country who are enrolled in university, college, or technical school.
Jenson is in his third year of a four-year BA in English literature at the University of British Columbia. His father, David Lam, is a carpenter and a member of General and Allied Workers Union, Local 67, affiliated with CLAC. David is employed by Peter Kiewit Infrastructure and is currently working on the Port Mann/Hwy 1 project outside Vancouver.
Brenda is enrolled in the Business Administration and Human Resource program at the British Columbia Institute of Technology in Burnaby. She is a member of Service, Health, and Allied Workers’ Union, Local 501, affiliated with CLAC, working as a host at Rogers Arena in downtown Vancouver. She has worked at the stadium since the day it opened in 1995.
Cherie Jackson is enrolled in her final year of Certified General Accounting program at Langara College in Vancouver. She is also a Local 501 member working as a host at Rogers Arena and serves her fellow members as a steward.
