In addition to wage increases in each year of the agreement, the employees will see improvements in layoff language, clothing allowance, and bereavement leave. Employer contributions to the Education and Assistance Fund were also increased.

RPNs Ratify First Contract
DATE: 2/12/2008
Grimsby, ON—Registered practical nurses employed by Shalom Gardens voted unanimously in favour of their first collective agreement. In addition to the job security they were seeking when they joined CLAC, these nurses' wages will increase to $21.50 per hour in May 2008. A responsibility premium was also negotiated into the competitive package.
"It is always exciting to work with employees who make a difference in society," says Amy Rideout, a CLAC representative. "These nurses, like so many other retirement home workers, are taking care of an important group of people, and we're pleased with the outcome of their first contract."
