02/26/10—Edmonton Local Works to Assist the Disadvantaged
Edmonton—Solidarity Local 104 is working with two separate inner city agencies, the Bissel Centre and the Native Healing Centre, to provide personal protective equipment and training services for members of Edmonton’s most disadvantaged community. “The support and generous contribution offered will make a big difference in their lives,” says Mark Bubel, the Bissell Centre’s employment services manager.
Harold Roscher, director of the Native Healing Centre, says “the program with CLAC has allowed us to speed up our process to get timely assistance to people who need it and help them directly in ways we just couldn’t afford to do before.” Both agencies operate their own drop-in centre and help their patrons with a variety of services including job preparation and placements, counselling, and meals.
