Every year CLAC holds a Stewards Conference for all stewards in British Columbia. We do this for two reasons: we want to say thank you for all of your hard work, and we want to be able to equip you as stewards by offering training and education sessions.

In an effort to make this more like a retreat than work, we will once again be holding the conference in beautiful Whistler at the Hilton Whistler Resort & Spa.

You can register anytime from 4:00 p.m. to 5:30 p.m. on September 13. At registration you will receive a package that will include an agenda for the rest of the conference, material you will need for your sessions, and a small CLAC gift item.

A reception will be provided for you from 5:30 p.m. to 6:15 p.m. The opening session begins at 6:15 p.m.

Our featured guest speaker is Wally Buono, General Manager and Head Coach of the BC Lions. Over the past 7 seasons, Buono has led the Lions to 7 playoff appearances; 5 consecutive appearances in the West Division Final and a crossover visit to the East Final as well as a Grey Cup Championship in 2006. Aside from being an accomplished CFL coach, Wally is a noted contributor to the community, being recognized for his work with the Paul Harris award in 2001. In 2004, after being diagnosed with angina, Wally became a spokesperson for Making the Connection TM, a program dedicated to the ongoing education of the dangers of high cholesterol and heart disease. Wally is also actively involved with Operation Christmas Child, giving presents to children of impoverished nations.

We will be notifying your employer regarding the conference dates, but you are required to make arrangements to be off during this time.

If you are a new steward, welcome aboard! We hope that this conference will help you become the best steward you can be and give you a chance to meet others who deal with similar work issues. If you are a returning steward, you already know how much fun these conferences can be. Either way, we look forward to seeing you all at the conference for a time of learning, meeting new friends, and growing together to make all of our workplaces more safe, productive, and enjoyable.
